Role of the Collection Captain
Our dedicated Collection Captains are indispensable in our mission to combat hunger and food insecurity within our community. Acting as the vital link between sandwich assembly by our volunteers and delivery to those in need, Collection Captains play a pivotal role in the success of our project. Your dedication ensures the smooth operation of this initiative, and we extend our sincere appreciation for your commitment to handling sandwiches safely.
To maintain compliance with food handling regulations, please adhere to the following requirements:
- Sandwiches must be stored in a refrigerator at all times.
- Coolers and ice packs are permitted only during transportation.
Collection Captains are responsible for ensuring that sandwich makers sign in and complete the SFTH logbook, provided to you. This logbook must document the following:
- Date of preparation
- Number of sandwiches
- Sandwich maker's name and signature
Volunteer sandwich makers will deliver their sandwiches to the designated Collection Captain at an agreed-upon time, no earlier than two days prior to delivery to our partner organization. On the day of delivery, volunteer drivers will pick up the sandwiches from Collection Captains.
As most of our deliveries occur on Thursdays, please expect sandwich drop-offs at collection points from late Tuesdays through early Thursdays. Your meticulous attention to these guidelines ensures that we meet food safety standards and effectively serve our community.
